MAP 12-61-0 (Monoammonium Phosphate) is a high-phosphorus fertilizer containing 12% nitrogen and 61% phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5). It is one of the most concentrated phosphorus fertilizers available, making it highly efficient for starter applications and phosphorus-deficient soils.

When to Choose MAP Over DAP

  • Acidic soils (pH below 6.0): MAP's acidifying effect helps maintain soil pH in the optimal range
  • Seed-row placement: MAP is safer near seeds because it produces less free ammonia
  • Fertigation systems: MAP is highly water-soluble and suitable for drip and sprinkler irrigation
  • High-phosphorus requirement: MAP provides more phosphorus per kilogram than DAP
  • Cold soil conditions: MAP performs better in cold, wet soils where ammonia volatilization from DAP increases

Application Methods

  • Band placement: 5-7cm below and to the side of the seed row at planting — the most efficient method
  • Broadcast and incorporate: Apply before planting and mix into soil 10-15cm deep
  • Fertigation: Dissolve at 5-10 kg per 1000 liters for drip irrigation systems
  • Blending: Mix with Urea and MOP for custom NPK formulations

Crops That Benefit Most from MAP

  • Maize/Corn: Excellent starter fertilizer for rapid early root development
  • Wheat: Strong root establishment in cold soil conditions
  • Soybeans: Efficient phosphorus supply without excess nitrogen
  • Cotton: Safe for seed-row placement with good phosphorus availability
  • Vegetables: Rapid establishment in transplant production systems
